Polish Vodka Market

送信 印刷 ダウンロード 彼は加えました: | 2013-08-09 02:49:04

Poland is the biggest vodka producer in the European Union. In Poland around 320 million litres of spirit beverages are produced (i.e.: Sweden – 115 million litres). Poland is also the third biggest vodka exporter in the EU. Last year, Poland exported 50 million litres (annual increase of 20%). Half of it has reached European countries, but the greatest sale increase of Polish vodka is in the Asian markets.

Poland is the biggest producer of vodka among the countries of European Union. In 1991 the spirit monopoly owned by the state-owned company Państwowy Monopol Spirytusowy (National Spirit Monopoly) was divided into 25 state-owned companies- Polmos. In 1999 the alcohol beverages producing companies were privatized. Most of the Polmos companies were transformed into one-person companies of the state treasury. In the period 2001-2006 many of the former Polmos companies was sold (e.g.: Polmos from Poznań was purchased by Pernod Ricard and French Belvedere Group renamed to Sobieski sp. z o.o. and purchased Polmos Starograd and Polmos Łańcut.

Few big operators will prevail in the production segment. CEDC, which sold its part of the Polish wholesale distribution to Eurocash in 2010, will concentrate on production and import. Reportedly, Belvedere Group is planning to sell its distribution part as well. The biggest producers (Stock, CEDC, Sobieski and Wyborowa), which often perceive their development abroad, will mainly be focusing on production and import. The CEDC Group is already provided with major operations in Russia. Great interest in purchasing Stock is visible from the worldwide concern Diageo.
Most vodka was produced in Poland between 1990 and 1995 (i.e. 150 million litres of spirit products annually). In the period from 1996 to 2005 the production of vodka in Poland dropped gradualy until 2002.  In 2003 and 2004 the production grown because of the excise tax reduction. In 2005, the sale dropped by around 9 percent. In the next years (2006 - 2008) production grown. In 2006, 99.3 million litres of spirit products (100% spirit) were produced in Poland (a growth of around 6 percent was reached in comparison with the year 2005). In 2007, there was a growth of over 10% (109.8 million litres) and in 2008, another record-breaking growth of nearly 15% (production and sales of around 126 million litres).  The following scheme provides the information about sales of vodka in Poland in years 1991-2010.

In 2009, a vodka production drop followed again. Excise tax rise and the worldwide economic crisis had an impact on this. Around 123 million litres (including 104.3 million litres of pure vodka alone) was produced in Poland. It made up around 96.7% of the production from 2008. The next year (2010), around the same amount of vodka was produced (around 104.5 million litres of pure vodka – growth by 0.5%).
Poland is the biggest vodka producer in the European Union. In Poland around 320 million litres of spirit beverages are produced (i.e.: Sweden – 115 million litres, Great Britain – 95 million litres, France – 64 million litres, Germany – 51 million litres and Finland – 42 million litres). Poland is also the third biggest vodka exporter in the EU. Last year, Poland exported 50 million litres (annual increase of 20%). Half of it has reached European countries, but the greatest sale increase of Polish vodka is in the Asian markets.
In 2011 the Polish vodka market, was estimated at 13 billion PLN. The lower price level of the mainstream segment is the most popular vodka sector and this is where companies put their most popular brands and this is where most consumers are buying. This segment allows producers to improve their production profitability, assures higher margins to distributors and consumers are provided with cheap vodka with better quality. Studies clearly show a growth in the mainstream segment and a drop in the premium and economy segments.Pure versions of flavoured vodkas have recently become particularly popular. Soplica vodka was provided with its pure variant as first many years ago. However, it is Czysta de Luxe Żołądkowa Gorzka vodka that has become a best-seller over the last years and its producer, Stock Polska, has conquered the domestic market with it. Polmos Lublin, after its takeover by Stock Group, has proven that it is possible for a vodka producer to achieve a success without a distribution network. The idea of a new brand, namely a pure version of the popular flavoured vodka Żołądkowa Gorzka, has turned out to be a spot on. Intensified marketing activities have also accompanied the introduction of this brand. Proper brand positioning and great interest among wholesale distributors in it have made Czysta de Luxe Żołądkowa Gorzka available in all shops and has become extremely popular among consumers. As a result, this vodka brand is now with a highest sale in Poland (around 17% of the market). It has also made Stock Polska a present leader among vodka producers (around 35% of the market). Another vodka – Krupnik Premium Vodka (pure version) of Sobieski Company (around 20% of the market), which made a debut in March 2010, has also quickly become successful. According to the producer’s information, it has already reached 10% of the Polish vodka market.Recently, there has been a reply from CEDC (around 22% of the market), namely pure Żubrówka. Żubrówka Biała, introduced in autumn 2010, is provided with around 6% of the vodka market.CEDC, which sold its wholesale distribution to Eurocash in 2010, will concentrate on production and import. Reportedly, Belvedere Group is also planning to sell its distribution network. The biggest producers (Stock, CEDC, Sobieski and Wyborowa), which often perceive their development abroad, will be mainly focusing on production and import. The CEDC Group is already provided with major operations in Russia. Great interest in purchasing Stock is visible from the worldwide concern Diageo.
The following brands were included on the “Millionaires 2010” list for their sales in 2009 of the English monthly “Drinks International”:–    Czysta de Luxe Żołądkowa Gorzka – Stock Polska (5.39 million of 9-litre carton boxes);–    Absolwent – CEDC (3.70 million);–    Sobieski – Belvedere (3 million);–    Wyborowa – Pernod Ricard (2.12 million);–    Starogardzka – Belvedere (2 million);–    Bols – CEDC (1.85 million);–    Żołądkowa Gorzka – Stock Polska (1.8 million);–    Soplica – CEDC (1.4 million);–    1906 - Stock (1.39 million), and–    Żubrówka – CEDC (1.04 million).Every year, all spirits are divided into three, the same as every year – International (over 20% of export), Regional (from 20% up to 10% of export) and Domestic/Local (90% and more sales on a local domestic market). Two Polish vodkas (Sobieski and Wyborowa) have a status of international brands and two regional (Bols and Soplica) and the remaining have a domestic status. Sobieski became the vice-leader among the international brands with the highest sale growth in the world (9.1%) and Czysta de Luxe the vice-leader among domestic brands with the highest sale growth in the world (187.8%). The biggest companies which are active in the Polish vodka market are listed below.
